I got this from a friend who posted this message on friendster's bulletin board. I think all of the tips for a very long job search are true. Worth posting. Hehehe... Btw, I am yatot and I am guess posting here on great jobs online. My description of the list follows. Enjoy reading and happy job hunting!
One never expects that a job search will last long until the weeks -- and months -- start ticking by. Plus, during an economic downturn, it may take even longer to find work and even a more stable job. To better increase your odds of finding a job sooner, here are 12 "don'ts" to avoid.
• Don't rely on one resume and cover letter. Apply more... the more the better. Competition in the job search market is very tough. So, to secure your chance to have a job, apply more to companies that fit your working skills. Who knows... sooner or later, one or more companies will call you back!
• Don't expect a response from every company. Yes, I know that you already passed several resumes to different companies, but of course, you cannot deny the fact the most companies are so choosy in reviewing the applicants' qualification. If you are most qualified for the job, you are more likely to have call backs. Better impress them with a stunning resume. Hahaha.
• Don't harass the hiring agent. All people get upset and stressed out, even the hiring agent. So, the best way to communicate with him/her, especially when you are inquiring over the phone, is in a sound mellow voice. Besides courtesy still matters. You don't want to show your devilish attitude do you?
• Don't expect immediate results. Sometimes it takes days, weeks even months for a response callback from the companies that you have applied with, especially when you just emailed them. So, if you want fast results, I suggest to go in the company's office personally! Some offices offer one day job hiring policy!
• Don't limit your possibilities. Explore, read, practice and learn. These are the things that you might want to stick in your mind when applying for a new job. Don't just stick to what you only knew. Explore more horizons and skills. The more skills, the more likely you are going to be hired!
• Don't get discouraged. You cannot deny the fact that there are always people better than you in terms of experience, skills and knowledge. So, don't be discouraged. Remember... don't limit your possibilities!
• Don't focus on the rejection. It really hurts the first time a company rejects our application. But it's okay. Everybody experiences that. Rejection is always a healthy feeling in seeking for a job!
• Don't compare yourself to others. Comparing yourself to other will only lead you to self-pity and not applying anymore to different jobs. Just don't compare yourself to others and believe in your skills and what you can offer to the company that you are applying to!
• Don't spend all your money. Applying for a job could not be so tiring because of nonstop walking from one building to another but it is also money draining activity. Spend your money wisely!
• Don't go sloppy. The first thing an HR officer notices is how you present yourself to the company you are applying to. If your clothes are sloppy enough, chances are, you will not get the job you want! So, be presentable. Remember, you are selling a product to the company you are about to apply... and that product is you!
• Don't stop looking until you actually have the job. Apply, apply, apply!!! Sooner or later you'll find your dream job with a high paying job!
• Don't panic and exaggerate. Never pressure yourself for hunting jobs because it can only land you nowhere. Apply for a job with ease, dedication and subtle feeling.
So there, I hope that can help you land on your dream job! Again, happy job hunting everyone!
